- Obamacare - Against the will of the majority of the American people, Obama and his minions in Congress passed legislation to introduce this system of socialized medicine in America. Because many of the tax increases and other outwardly negative aspects of this system would not kick in for several years, the public backlash against their affront to public opinion was lessened. Although socialized medical and health care systems around the world have failed miserably and resulted in negative consequences for patients, national economies, and quality of care, the system was touted as the "only way" to solve America's health care crisis. Despite other viable solutions (i.e. tort reform) that would repair the current system, Obamacare was forced through Congress.
- Missile Defense Shield Cancelled - In September 2009, President Obama capitulated to Russian demands to cease progress toward creating a missile defense shield in Europe to protect our allies and our own interests in the region. The reasoning behind this move was that Iran's long-range missile system was not progressing as rapidly as initially thought. The wisdom of this decision is apparent now that Iran is developing nuclear weapons that now not only threaten Europe, but the rest of the world as well. Russia, a close Iranian ally, had demanded that the U.S. stop their progress toward building the shield. The Czech Republic and Poland, two of our staunchest allies in the region, had offered their assistance and support at great risk considering their proximity to Russia and the tensions in the region. Nonetheless, Obama threw them under the bus.
- Economic "Stimulus" - In what has become the typical modus operandi of the Obama administration, the case was made that unless we acted immediately to curb unemployment by spending trillions of dollars, the sky would fall. Don't think! Just do it! The promise was that if we just supported what the Obama administration wanted to do, unemployment would never go above 8%. If we waited, they argued, pieces of the sky would begin to fall on our heads that very day. The country watched as, again, they rammed legislation through Congress to support their economic plans. The result? Record unemployment (nearly 10%, and always above 8%) and record debt. Our national debt is now higher than our GDP. Hmmm, was that a piece of sky that just hit me in the head? Of course, the spin was that if they hadn't done what they did, the moon would fall too, but luckily, they were able to stop that from happening. Ahh, thanks be to the benevolent regime!
- US Credit Rating Downgraded - Because of Obama's excellent handling of the economy, S&P downgraded the US credit rating, for the first time in the history of the ratings, from AAA to AA+. This was in response to the increase in the nation's debt ceiling while failing to contain spending on entitlements. In other words, the S&P does not feel that we are on a course to make good on our debts. Great job, President Obama!
- Failed Energy Policies - Don't let the recent State of the Union address fool you. While Obama may say he is for making the US energy-independent and talks a great line about increasing oil and natural gas exploration, his track record has been abysmal on these issues. One of his first acts as president was to cancel oil and gas leases on 130,000 acres of land in Utah. He has been a consistent impediment to oil and gas exploration and has vowed to put the coal mining industry out of business. He stopped a Bush plan for commercial oil shale leasing. He supports cap-and-trade which, in his words, would cause electricity rates to "necessarily skyrocket." His most recent exploit derailed the proposed Keystone pipeline that would have resulted in the creation of 140,000 jobs and reduced our dependency on Middle East Oil reserves. The energy projects he does support are in the areas of solar and wind and have resulted in great successes like Solyndra, which made $535 million vanish into thin air and created no energy.
- Bailing out GM - "Too big to fail." That was the mantra of the economic downturn. It was also the rationalization used by the Obama administration to bail out the distressed automaker GM. While the administration would have everyone believe that allowing GM to fail would have ended US auto manufacturing as we know it, the opposite is certainly true. Had GM been allowed to fail, some other entity with the money to do so would have bought the assets of the company and continued manufacturing automobiles. Not GM automobiles, but automobiles nonetheless. Workers would be employed, unions may well have been expelled, cars would be produced. A company with the financial means to do so would have seen the opportunity presented by the situation and would have stepped in to fill the vacuum. That's the way it works if capitalism is allowed to thrive. Instead, we got the Chevy Volt -- a car that nobody wants to buy and costs more to produce than they can sell it for. This is the kind of thinking that brought the world such marvels as the Trabant, Lada, and Volga. Go team!
- Immigration - Due to the absolute refusal of the federal government to do its job in curbing illegal immigration, many states determined to pass immigration legislation of their own. While I agree that it was not within the states jurisdiction to do many of the things they proposed, the states were left with no other choice. The federal government refused to do its job and the states were on the hook to pay the price for all of the expenses incurred by illegal immigrants who walked through the open door. And when the states attempted to enforce the laws themselves, what did the Obama administration do? They sued the states and told them that if they didn't like the federal "enforcement," they could lump it. Hmmm, didn't the federal government get its powers from the states? Oh well, the Constitution's just a dusty old document...
- The Space Program - Unlike Newt Gingrich, I don't think we need to colonize the moon. I'm sure he envisions that he may actually have a chance at the presidency if the moon were the 51st state. I, however, think the costs and resources involved make the proposition of a moon colony laughable. But we need to have a space program. And that includes a lift vehicle of our own. To scrap the shuttle program and hitch a ride with our fair-weathered friend Russia is unacceptable. We need to maintain our dominance in space -- not with lofty plans of colonizing the moon or even travelling to Mars, but with our own resources allowing us to maintain our security in near-space.
- America is exceptional - We need a leader who acknowledges that America is exceptional. Barack Obama says that he believes America is exceptional just as, he suspects, Greeks feel that Greece is exceptional and other countries' citizens believe that their countries are exceptional. Well, if that's the case, he can feel free to go be the president of Greece. Their economy is already nearly destroyed and he can help them finish the job. America is exceptional. Nowhere else on earth do people have the freedom we enjoy in America. At no time in history have people been more free. America is a beacon for other nations. Our Constitution is the basis for the Constitutions of other countries who yearn to be free. We need a leader who acknowledges American exceptionalism -- not by boasting or lording it over others, but by presenting it as a model worthy of emulation and inviting the world to do so. And we need a leader who can inspire us to be that shining city on a hill, worthy of emulation.
- Nothing to lose - When the inevitability of Obama's election was clear, I thought, "how much damage can one person do in four years?" Sadly, we have seen how much damage can be done. And the damage that has been done in the past three years will pale in comparison to the damage that will be done in Obama's next term when he has nothing to lose and no need to win reelection. We cannot afford another four years of Obama. His goal is to "fundamentally transform" America. None of us is so blinded as to not see that America has problems. But it is fundamentally good. Obama's image of America is a distortion. His America is one where success is punished and the value of hard work is diminished. Our country was founded on the priniciples of hard work and dedication, on pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and making your own destiny, on being charitable because we're good, not because we are forced, and on a belief in divine providence. We must address our problems, but the solution is not wholesale destruction of the system upon which America achieved her greatness.
This is the Conservative Spot. It's about right and wrong, not right and left. It's about Conservative ideals, not Democrat or Republican ideals. It's about logic and common sense. It's about moral values. It's about the values that made America great.

10 Reasons We Must Not Allow Barack Obama a Second Term
With all of the recent attention being placed on the Republican primaries, many have gotten lost in the "he said, she said" nature of the Republican infighting. Several right-leaning talking heads have lamented the attacks and viciousness of the campaigns, fearing that Republicans are becoming so embittered that they will not be able to come together once the nominee is finally chosen. Many people on social media and other forums claim that they won't vote for one or the other candidate if that candidate is chosen as the nominee -- opting instead, I suppose, to vote for a third party. Whoever is ultimately chosen, it is absolutely essential for everyone to come together in the end. Allowing Barack Obama a second term in office would be a disaster; and the outlook for the country, if that happens, is grim. The sheer enormity of the issues of health care and the economy have overshadowed many of the "smaller" failures of the administration. I have come up with a list of ten important examples/reasons why we must not allow Barack Obama a second term in office:
